I'm a firm believer in rooster tails but the water is shallow and the small panther martins excel in this type of trout fishing. They are getting smart and spitting out the trout magnets. In another week or so they will be tougher to catch because the insect hatches are getting into full swing. The stocking guys put 2 ginormus trout in each stocking spot in this area last week.

And I'm wasting my time playing COD over lunch! Rooster tails used to rock up in the Adirondacks. But jitterbugs were my favorite! Go out right before dark near the island...shallow water....guaranteed to hit a 1 or 2 pound bass. This one time...at band camp.....no just kidding. Seriously though this one time at night I had a rod hanging over the edge of a small 12 foot boat with a jitterbug at the end of the line about 18" above the water. Wouldn't u know it a bass jumped up and hooked his ass on the jitterbug! Good times......good times.... |

Nice chunky spec... I dont trout fish much anymore either, just never seem to have the time, and I live within walking distance of a major trout stream. Panther martin has always been my favorite trout killer, I've taken lots on rooster tails and mepps, but once they have been buzzed a few times, seems like the PM is the only thing they will hit at times....Unless of coarse I break out the long wand. Good job, nice fish |
