Only I could run into

A hickory shad blitz. Caught a whole bunch of hickory shad. They liked my white teaser fly.I was surprised how big they were. I've never had fish flip /flop around more than these fish.

I ran into a school of what I think are herring, same size and shape as the shad you have there, and I have to ask...did that shad shed it's scales like crazy? Usually when I catch them, I lift them onto the jetty and by the time they are back in the water half their scales are laying on the rocks, but the herring I ran into did not lose scales at all. And they tore up my teasers to the point that I had to take the teasers off for a while, just to avoid hooking them.
Just curious.

I don't recall scales flying off because these were in the surf. I snapped a pic so I could identify what they were. They would be cool to catch on a flyrod.

They are great on the fly or with an ultra light outfit. I keep a 4' 6" UL spooled with 4lb. and a 9' 5wt. in my van for when they run. They're like mini tarpon in appearence and acrobatics.
